Summer Fashion Trends 2014: Perfect Prints

Welcome to the next installment in the Our Town Brisbane style series!

So far we’ve had a had iconic style blogger Nikki Parkinson and Brisbane stylist Josh Kilroy  give us their tips for this seasons must haves.

The next two posts in this series  feature Brisbane fashion labels who to me embody the essence of Brisbane style: eclectic, confident and not afraid to be themselves.

Although their styles are very different these labels were born out of the same driving force: frustration.

In both cases the designers had a vision for their own personal style that the big brands weren’t meeting. So rather than compromise both took matters into their own hands and started designing the clothes THEY wanted to wear. And it turned out other people felt the same.

So to kick off things off here is one of my all time favourite labels…

Maiocchi Summer 14

For those who aren’t familiar, designer Deanne Mayocchi  has been producing beautifully cut garments in gorgeous prints since 2001. Maiocchi prints are a fusion of vintage and oriental inspired patterns that almost seem to come to life.

I regularly haunt the Maiocchi store in Adelaide street on my lunch break (the staff are very good about it) so I was delighted when owner and designer Deanne agreed to give us her take on summer fashion trends 2014.

Maiocchi known for the stunning prints you use in your designs. Can you tell us a bit about the patterns featured in your 2014 summer collection?

A of a country cottage sets the scene with a garden in bloom, feathered friends and other woodland creatures. We have two Custom designed prints for the season that are nature inspired and reminiscent of childlike sketches and paper cut outs.

Are there any particular colours or textures that you are loving this season?

The Summer collection Woods of Wisdom is not for the shrinking violet, with its bold childlike colours of red, yellow and bright blues which have been offset with muted dreamy tones of calico and peach. As with all our collections the fabrics are beautiful Japanese cottons and striking linens, perfect for the Summer weather.

What will be your “go to” outfit or piece this season?

My go to outfit for the season would have to be the Dreamsicle Dress in RED, it’s the perfect balance of Japanese Cotton, bright colours and retro goodness. Silly Season here we come!

Maiocchi also have some awesome home-wares that would make excellent Christmas gifts. Check out these funky cushions…
