Meet 7 New Brisbane Bars You’ll Want to Visit!

As someone who’s been going out in Brisbane since the 90’s (I think I’ve just outed my age with that statement but whatever!) one of the most gratifying things to watch has been changes to our bar scene over the years.

I’ve witnessed the XXXX/VB/Tooheys dominance of our beer taps give way to craft beers, and the old $2 Daiquiris from a “slushie” machine have been replaced with Negronis and Espresso Martinis.

But the most significant changes have come from the venues themselves.

Back in the day most bars tried and appeal to the broadest possible market which generally lead to a whole lot of cookie-cutter watering holes that were bland in the worst way.

These days bars in Brisbane are anything but bland. They are run by passionate people who give a shit about the drinks they’re serving, and the ingredients they use to make them. They employ equally passionate chefs who want to match the food to both the drinks and the style of the bar.

And the best part? Things just keep getting better and better!

And if you want evidence you only have to look at the seven newest Brisbane bars. That’s right there are SEVEN new bars that have either opened in the last few weeks or are opening soon.

So let’s get to know the latest new Brisbane bars to join the scene…

Just Opened

Fish Lane, South Brisbane

Tucked into Fish Lane next to Julius Pizzeria you could almost blink and miss Maker, the newest undertaking from Jerome Batten, owner of Sourced Grocer at Teneriffe and new South Bank eatery Gauge. And by all accounts that would be a damn shame because despite being open just 2 weeks it has already made a name for itself as having on of the most innovative cocktail menus in Brisbane!

Think house made liqueurs featuring Australian botanicals, fresh honeycomb and liquid nitrogen chilled Martini’s and you have glimpse of what this exciting new venue has to offer.

NOTE: Maker has no website and no social media accounts – which leaves you no choice but to take the old fashioned approach and just GO!

Shout out to my insta-mates @discoverbrisbane for the fabulous photo from their visit to Maker! If you don’t already follow them, get on to it right now because their feed is full of amazing things to do in Brisbane 🙂

Gaslight Bistro

726 Brunswick Street, New Farm

From the owners of Hoo Ha Bar, comes a new eating, drinking and general good times venue on Brunswick St, New Farm. Gaslight Bistro is fitted with the same welcoming service and delicious food and drink as their comfortable Southbank destination, but with new flavours and a relaxed and smart New Farm feel.

For bookings visit the Gaslight Bistro website, and follow their Facebook page here to stay up to date with events and news.

NOLA Portside

Fans of Louisiana hospitality are in for a treat with the newest addition to Portside. Promising hot jazz, cool drinks, and warm hospitality – NOLA Portside officially opens tonight for southern-style shenanigans! Next weekend they’ll be celebrating the 4th of July with a grand opening event featuring US beers, share platters and New Orleans jazz legend Herb Armstrong.

Enter the world of a roaring 20’s speakeasy at Prohibition – Brisbane’s newest drinking den. Relax with a drink on arrival at the Blind Tiger bar, before entering the main hall for dancing and cocktails or to retire to one of the lounges for a tete-a-tete. You can check out Prohibition now, but the club will hold it’s official launch next weekend.

Hot Tip: Subscribe to the mailing list and you’ll go in the draw to win a $3,000 package for Prohibition’s opening weekend including limousine transfers, private booth and bottle service! To enter fill in your details here.

Opening Soon

Popular dining precinct Bulimba is about to gain a slick new player on the scene. Taking over the sapce formerly occupied by Ahmets, Barcadia will be bringing some much needed killer cocktails to the Oxford Street strip as well as dining options suitable for sharing and groups.  No firm opening date yet but the word on the street is that mid-July is a likely time-frame.

To make sure you don’t miss the opening announcement follow the Barcadia Facebook page here

Eleven Rooftop Bar

High above the Valley a new rooftop bar is nearing completion! Bar Eleven the newest venue in the Coates Group stable, who also brought us Jetty restaurants at Bulimba and South Bank. We don’t know anything about what sort of food they’ll be offering but we DO know that there are some seriously good cocktails on the list!

Hot Tip: Subscribe to the mailing list and you’ll go in the draw to win a private catered booth for you and 9 friends at their opening night party, valued at over $1,000! To enter fill in your details here.

Mr Edwards Alehouse

The Brisbane CBD has been in need of a fine craft beer establishment – so it’s excellent timing indeed that Mr Edwards Alehouse & Kitchen will be opening in mid July! They’ve partnered with Cooper’s to showcase their full collection as well as a collection of local and international craft bottle beers that should complement the planned modern European menu nicely. The venue will feature a large outside dining area, making it a perfect spot for a cleansing ale or two with friends.

Follow the Mr Edwards Alehouse Facebook page here to stay up to date with launch announcements, or follow them in Instagram here.

So if you’re looking for weekend entertainment over the next few weeks this should be PLENTY to keep you going!
