Fashion Week. Were there ever two words more filled with glamour and possibility?
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival, Brisbane’s own fashion week. Over the years it’s become Queensland’s premier fashion event, offering us a shimmering sneak peak into the trends for the upcoming spring/summer season.
While the official program runs from 23rd – 28th August, many local designers also choose this time of the year to debut their own new season collections in a flurry of media launches, exhibitions and displays.
I’ve always kind of stalked these fashion events from afar on various social media platforms. But this year I have been lucky enough to be invited to not just one but TWO SS15 launch events!
So naturally I’m completely TERRIFIED.
Look don’t get me wrong I LOVE clothes and getting dressed up, but to be frank my look can probably best be summed up as “Chain Store Chic” (Thank you Natalie for enlightening me that there was an official term for my look!). So I’m more than a little afraid I’ll be out of my depth among the Brisbane fashionistas.
My plan so far amounts to…
- Wear black – slimming and will not show stains if I drop canapes on myself (happens more than you’d think)
- Add lots of red lippy for a pop of colour
- Listen to Beyonce in the taxi on the way into town and hope that I can absorb some of her “Sasha Fierce” attitude by osmosis
If anyone has any improvements on this plan I would love to hear them! But enough about me…
