If you’re anything like me your New Years Eve experiences have been a bit of a mixed bag. I’ve had some of of the best nights of my entire life on NYE… but I’ve also had a couple that were pretty average too.
The perfect New Years Eve can be an elusive beast to capture for two reasons…
1. It’s highly individual.
The perfect night means different things to different people. For every person that wants to get dressed up to the nines and drink French champagne somewhere achingly cool, there’s another who’d much rather welcome the New Year in somewhere they can have a few drinks without too much hype.
2. The potential for let down is HUGE.
You know what its like. When you’re looking forward to a special event you can’t help building up expectations. And NYE is THE night to get excited about right? But when an event doesn’t deliver expectations crash hard, leaving you disappointed.
So how do you a) find the event that’s right for you and b) ensure the only thing that fizzes on the night is the champagne?
Let Our Town Brisbane point you in the right direction with this list of the coolest, most fabulous Brisbane New Years Eve parties in town!
Editors Note: This guide is strictly geared towards grown-ups who have managed to shake the kids for the night. If you’re looking for some awesome family friendly ideas for NYE then check out this guide over at The Mummy & the Minx.
Top Shelf: Deluxe New Year’s Packages
OK so these options aint cheap but if there was ever an argument for “you get what you pay for” then this is it! Both packages are pretty much all inclusive and the venues themselves are just stunning. Hey, you’ve worked hard all year so you deserve it right?
See in the new year while overlooking one of Brisbane’s most exquisite river views! Blackbird is celebrating their first New Years in style with their own private fireworks display. Add to this Blackbirds to a gorgeous cocktails and food and you are on to a NYE winner.

Party French Riviera style at Brisbane’s newest pool bar. Soleil bills its St Tropez themed party as the most extravagant in Brisbane with good reason – the event features a cavalcade of entertainment including fire dancers, synchronised swimmers, exotic birds and DJs galore. It may be the priciest option on the list but when you take into consideration that the package includes NINE cocktails its an offer many will find difficult to refuse!

Something Different: Unique New Years Packages
There are so many amazing themed NYE events happening in Brisbane this year we really are spoiled for choice. Whether you’re looking for a casual party or something with full on entertainment there is something out there to suit your tastes. Here are five of the best we’ve found this year…
New Years Geek – Tix $89
Party with your favourite pop culture characters at the Brisbane Powerhouse for their first ever New Years Geek party. Entertainment on the night includes retro arcade games, film screenings and bands belting out your fave video game theme songs. Gamers, cosplayers and fantasy fans should note that there’s a cosplay competition too – so get your costumes on and dress to impress!
WHEN: 8.00 pm – 1.00 am
INCLUSIONS: Tickets include entry plus a complimentary drink and appetizer from Bar Alto
The entire Boundary Street markets complex will come alive this new years eve for the Big Chill party. Guests can relax and soak in the cruisy West End vibes at this festival-style party, which features THREE stages of live music! Have a cocktail from the Tiki bar at the urban beach then grab a bite from one of the many street food vendors that will be peppered throughout the complex.
WHEN: 2.00 pm – 2.00 am
The thing I love about The Fox is that it ALWAYS offers a couple of different ticket options, which allows you to choose the one that suits your budget. Their NYE party is no different – choose from the basic “Pubs, Clubs & Palaces” pass which gives you access to the main areas OR pay a bit extra for the “Kate Moss Rooftop Bar” pass and watch the fireworks in style from one of the best vantage points in town!
WHEN: 7.30 pm – 12.00 midnight (cash bar opens after this time)
COST: Pubs, Clubs & Palaces – $99 / Kate Moss Rooftop Bar – $149
INCLUSIONS: Both packages include Summer BBQ plate and dessert canapes, beer, wine, basic spirits and two house cocktails to choose from.
I’m going to come right out and say it – I reckon Papa Jacks has possibly the BEST bar atmosphere in Brisbane. Its cool without being intimidating and from the moment you walk in you feel like your being enveloped in warm southern embrace. This years Mardi Gras celebration will feature live music, bead throwing and “ass-shaking” – now that’s my idea of a party!!
WHEN: 7.00 pm – 12.00 midnight
INCLUSIONS: Creole canapes, beer, wine, house spirits, and hourly cocktails
This NYE the The Regatta and Walrus Club will transform into a Big Top extravaganza! These guys have gone all out with the entertainment including fire acts, face painters and even a fortune teller! NOTE: The Walrus Club also has one of the most amazing rum collections in Brisbane so if that’s your thing make sure you check it out.
WHEN: 8.00 pm – 12.00 midnight (cash bar opens after this time)
INCLUSIONS: Four hour premium beverage package, canapes, grazing boxes and fairy floss!
Party Your Way : No Package New Years options
Packages aren’t for everyone. Some people don’t want to spend the cash up front and some people just don’t like being tied down to one venue. So here are three options for a great time without the package deal…
Buffalo Bar NY Hoe Down: Think awesome wings, craft beer and great people
A & C NYE House Party: Get tiki’d with the A & C crew. This is one Brisbane venue that makes me smile just thinking about it!
Coppa: For those who’d prefer a great meal for their NYE celebrations you should check out newcomer Coppa. I haven’t been yet but I’ve heard AMAZING things (check out the review by Food Me Up Scotty here.)
Which ever option you choose this NYE I hope you have a fabulous end to 2014, and kick of 2015 with a drink in your hand and a smile on your face!
