Five new Brisbane markets to check out

It’s official: Brisbane folk have gone mad for markets!

The rise in popularity of farmer’s markets has been nothing short of phenomenal, and this year alone we’ve seen five new players come on to the scene.

Back in the old days a trip to the markets meant you’d be up for a a trip out to the Brisbane Markets out at Rocklea. Then in the early ‘naughties Jan Power revolutionised what we now know as the quintessential market experience with the creation of the Powerhouse Markets at New Farm.

Fast forward to today and he majority of Brisbane residents have access to a local market within a few suburbs of where they live.

So what is it about these markets that have us coming out in droves every weekend?

The quality of the produce is one factor. Many of us have become disillusioned with the major shopping chains in terms of price and quality so it’s wonderful to be able to find fruit and veg that is “alive”, rather than having been kept in cold storage for months.

But it’s not all about the produce. One of the major draw-cards is the fact that no two markets are exactly alike. Each market has it’s own distinctive personality that makes it unique. Some have a foodie focus and specialise in gourmet products, while others are more focused on organic produce  There are markets in car parks, wedged into urban lane-ways and even at a koala sanctuary!

So if you’re a farmer’s market fan, here are five new markets that opened in 2015 that you can add to your “must visit” list…
