Brisbane Festival Hacks: On a Date

This is the first in a series of short, sharp posts that are designed to help you hack the Brisbane Festival depending on what sort of experience you are looking for.

Threre’ll be posts about family days out, posts about doing the festival on a budget and posts about how to have a mega night out with your mates.

But to kick things off I decided to start with …

Why Dinner @ South Bank Surf Club?

When you take a date out to dinner, the restaurant in question has one job and one job only: to make YOU look good. And for that you really cant go past The South Bank Surf Club . Their approach is simple – take the best quality ingredients and do only what is necessary to make it awesome.

The result is elegant food without being fussy – which is probably precisely the impression you’re aiming to make am I right (insert waggling eyebrow gestures here). And the fact that this is a popular date night venue for me and my partner, The Chef, speaks volumes!

BONUS – South Bank Surf Club is also participating in the Festival Flavours program, which means you can sample their specially designed main course and  glass of wine for just $30!! For more details see

First and foremost this show is set to be THE highlight of the festival. A cirque masterpiece with contortionists, aerial acrobatics and illusionists all performing in a down and dirty cabaret world.

And I’ll be frank – if you’re trying to set the mood for a little action (insert more meaningful eyebrow action) then any performance that Madonna has seen TWICE because it is so hot is probably bound to do the trick!

Why Cowch?

Two words are sufficient to explain this choice: NAKED POPS!!! Think about a Magnum ice cream – but with with your CHOICE of ice cream flavour. Then you get to dip it in your choice of dark, milk or white chocolate and sprinkle it with toppings!!

This is only one of the decadent treats you’ll find at this relatively new dessert cocktail bar. A little bit naughty and a little bit nice its the perfect way to end your Brisbane Festival date night on a sweet note!
