7 Brisbane Instagrammers that will brighten your day

Brisbane Instagrammers

Social media can be quite polarizing subject.

Some people loathe it. They say that society’s increasing reliance on this form of communication will be the death of real conversation, and stunt our ability to have  meaningful human interactions.

To those people I say BOLLOCKS!

I love social media. LOVE. IT. SICK.

For some reason it feels slightly weird to actually put that in writing. Like I’ve just admitted to being a Mormon or something.

But as a mother of three who also works full time  outside the home, social media allows me to stay connected to old friends from various stages of my life and has also introduced me to some RAD people I would never have otherwise met.

So like I said I’m a die-hard social media fan. And of all the social media platforms I’m active on, Instagram is my current favourite.

To be honest it took me a while to “get it”. I’ve always been such a word person that the idea of telling  story through an image was really foreign to me.

But by following some truly amazing Instagrammers I’ve started to get the hang of  visual storytelling, while also having a ball connecting with a whole new set of interesting and creative people online.

So here are some of my favourite Brisbane Instagrammers for you to check out. These people use stunning images to tell us about their passions and give you their own unique perspective on life in Brisbane…

NOTE: images in the collage above are in the order they appear in this post,  left to right from the top down.

Visit Brisbane

Follow @visitbrisbane for : exploring the beauty of our city

This is the official Instagram of the Visit Brisbane website run by Brisbane Marketing. I love the fact that they don’t just focus on Brisbane (although there are plenty of gorgeous city shots), but also remind me of the beautiful places like Redcliffe and Tangalooma that are practically on our doorstep.

Ameriaus Food

Follow @ameriaus_food  for : 100% solid gold food porn

Ameriaus Food is lovingly curated by Chelsea Hawkins, a committed Brisbane foodie and one half of the @eatbrisbane team with her husband Darrell (who also takes great food pics at @ausmican_eats). Together they are taking the Brisbane food scene by storm with places at their regular @eatbrisbane events being highly sought after.

I dare you not to be hungry after checking out her feed!

Sharp Isaac

Follow him for : simply stunning photography

I have only just discovered Sharp Isaac but when you look at the quality of his photos you will see what has drawn me to this account. Beautiful lines, lots of colour and interesting subjects. Just beautiful.

Champagne Cartel

Follow them for : inspiration to find  champagne moments in the every day, plus some good cheeky fun.

Champagne Cartel is the love child of  Carolyn Tate and Gillian Moody, and they are all about encouraging us to take time out for ourselves in this busy world. They make me smile every time they pop up in my Instagram feed with their cheeky humour and their down to earth approach to life.

One Page Brisbane

Follow them for : a different angle on the every day

One Page Brisbane is actually a literary magazine that focuses on a different Brisbane theme each month. I love the mag obviously, but their Instagram feed is also cool because they seek out the quirky, hidden parts of Brisbane and show you a side to things you might miss otherwise. I always end up looking at their photos for a REALLY long time.

The Brisbane Collective

Follow them for : an inside look at the Brisbane art scene

TBC are an artist collective that are dedicated to showcasing the vibrant Brisbane arts scene. Their instagram is a mix of event and exhibition photos plus some from behind the scenes of the monthly magazine they produce. I love seeing what creativity is flourishing within our city and discovering talented artists I would never otherwise have known about.

Styling You

Follow her for : fashion and other general fabulousness

Many of you would know Nikki form Styling You from her mega-successful fashion blog and her Everyday Style challenge that has taken Instagram by storm. I love Nikki’s feed not JUST for the fashion, but also because it gives us a glimpse into her life here in Brisbane.

Now these are just SOME of my favourite Brisbane Instagram accounts – and I know there are so many others out there that I haven’t even discovered yet.

So if YOU have a favourite Brisbane Instagram account that you follow I’d  love you to tag them on the image from this post that will be up on my Instgram account today.

That way I can check them out and follow them too!

My Instgram is at @rachel_ourtownbrisbane – so head on over there now and start tagging 🙂

Its fun isn’t it? I really love it, possibly even more than Facebook (cant believe I’m saying that!):) Hey I’ve been meaning to ask – are you in Queensland? I had a look last time I was on your blog but couldn’t find the info.

  1. I love social media sick too, haha!! I just have never really gotten into instagram. FB is my real love. I think I need to get onto the Insta bandwagon though.

I feel that way about Pinterest. I’m trying (because a lot of people find it really effective for driving traffic) but its all a bit bamboozling to be honest! I’ll always love FB though 🙂

  2. I’m with Renee – I haven’t got in to Instagram because I don’t think I take great photos (even though I love to look at other people’s great photos. I can see it being a sink-hole, a satisfying one at that.

Yep you’ve nailed it Kathy – you can definitely disappear down an insta-hole if you let yourself!

  3. Hi Rachel! I love *some* social media but not all! I’m not a huge twitter fan. It just doesn’t rock my boat but I am still friendly with it. I announce new posts there and respond to any messages. I adore Instagram! I’m a visual person! I use Facebook but it’s mean lately because hardly anyone sees what I post there. They want the moola and I must confess that I have coughed up a couple of times! I use Pinterest but not to it’s best capacity. Need to do me some learning there I think! Google+ totes confuses me but hey – I’m on there! Love your list of Instagrammers!! I follow three of them – will check out the others! 🙂

  4. I took a while to get into Instagram…but now I love it too! And I love the way Instagram provides a totally different angle to a blog presence or a Facebook page. There’s an immediacy and intimacy about it that I really like.

  5. I have an up and down relationship with instagram. I mostly love it though and I love looking at all of the gorgeous pictures people post.

  6. So cool you have Champagne Cartel up there. Carolyn and Gillian are all sorts of awesomesauceness 🙂 Will have to stalk, er check out the others. Love me my Insty! x
